Campus Minister/Director for the Wesley Foundation at Eastern Illinois University
 
Applications are being sought for the full-time position of Campus Minister/Director for the Wesley Foundation at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.  The position includes oversight of all operations of the Wesley Foundation, including programming, administration and the development of Christian leaders.  The purpose of the Wesley Foundation at Eastern Illinois University is to build an intentionally inclusive community of Christ followers for all people regardless of gender, race, age, or sexual orientation and to develop principled Wesleyan Christian leaders.  The Wesley Foundation also aims to provide a safe and welcoming space regardless of religion.
 
 
Eastern Illinois University is a dynamic regional comprehensive public university with an actively engaged and increasingly diverse student body known for its strong ethic toward service and community outreach. The new Campus Minister/Director will have the opportunity not only for leadership in cultivating and nurturing disciples of Christ on campus and in the community, but also to be part of an active partnership with the Wesley Foundation Board as it moves toward the goal of a new building for the campus ministry.

Job Description - Campus Minister, Wesley Foundation at Eastern Illinois University
 

OVERVIEW:  The Director will oversee all operations of the Wesley Foundation at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, in conjunction with the higher education communities of Eastern Illinois University and Lake Land College; includes programming, administration and development of Christian leaders.

 

The purpose of the Wesley Foundation is to build an intentionally inclusive community of Christ followers for all people regardless of religion, gender, race, age, or sexual orientation and to develop principled Wesleyan Christian leaders.

 

REPORTS TO:  Wesley Foundation Board of Directors; Illinois Great Rivers Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry; and Embarras River District Superintendent.

 

HOURS:  Full time

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Ministry to College Students:

  • Develop, promote and coordinate a balanced program of activities and discipleship for college students.
  • Involve students and student leaders in outreach programs that are both evangelistic and missional.
  • Plan monthly activities to involve students in programs of the Wesley Foundation including outreach, missions, bible study groups, community opportunities and leadership development.
  • Be available evenings and weekends for university and church activities; schedule office hours and availability.
  • Provide pastoral care to college students as needed.
  • Support students in their college life and their faith journey with Christ.
  • Pursue networking with the area campus communities.
  • Foster a safe environment for all people regardless of religion, gender, race, age or sexual orientation.

Ministry Leadership:

  • Encourage student leadership to strengthen attendance, organize events, and promote bible study.
  • Attend board meetings and provide evidence of nurturing the spiritual growth and discipleship of participants in the ministry of the Wesley Foundation.
  • Connect with churches of our conference and other churches in the region to make them aware of the ministry of the Wesley Foundation.

Finance:

  • Draw up a yearly budget with board members and submit to the Conference.
  • Ensure ongoing maintenance of detailed records for accounting and auditing purposes, and assist the Board with its financial-related decisions.

Fundraising:

  • Actively lead and support the Board Fundraising/Fund Development Committee.

Travel:

  • Attend the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference.
  • Have a clean driving record in order to drive the Wesley United Methodist Church van.
  • Participation in training, ministry opportunities, and other events or activities.
  • Attend Illinois Great Rivers Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry meetings.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Desire to make disciples who are actively engaged in professing their faith.
  • Passion for working with students along with having an active presence on campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Wesley Foundation Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

  • Preference for a person who is ordained, or seeking ordination in the Elder or Deacon tracks of the United Methodist Church.
  • Relevant Master’s Degree.
  • Passion for working with college students.

 Experience:

  • Relevant leadership experience desirable.

 Salary:

  • Commensurate with experience.
